How to choose a good adult mattress?

Choosing a good mattress

It is important to choose a mattress that does not receive chemical treatments such as pesticides or insecticides (ban anti-mite treatments).

Choose a mattress whose raw materials and manufacturing are certified without toxic fumes and volatile materials. The best known and most reliable certification is the OEKO-TEX® certification.

To choose the best comfort for a mattress, there are 3 categories of mattresses: soft - firm - progressive.

Soft mattresses

They are particularly suitable for small and light people. Indeed, a light person will only "use" the first few centimetres of a normal mattress, while a soft mattress will provide ideal comfort.

On the other hand, a soft mattress will put a heavy strain on the spine of a person of normal weight. Turning around becomes difficult, the sleeper often wakes up with aches and pains.

Firm mattresses

They are recommended for people of high build or people who do not like to sink into their mattresses.

But a Firm-rated mattress will be quite tiring for a person of normal build. It will cause pressure points, especially in the shoulders and pelvis, which create a feeling of fatigue and sometimes back pain.

To make the right choice, simply lie down on a firm mattress, relax and try to reach into the hollow of the loins, if the hollow is large enough for the hand to pass, it means that the mattress is too firm.

Progressive mattresses

These mattresses offer an initial feeling of soft comfort, but become firm as you sink in. They are suitable for most sleepers and offer an ideal level of comfort while preserving the sleeper's back. They adapt to the sleeper's morphology and do not create pressure points.

Mattress covers

A good mattress cover (ticking) must first of all be removable, so that it can be washed in the washing machine. The best fabrics are those made of naturally anti-mite and anti-bacterial fabrics and without any added chemical treatment. A cover containing TENCEL™ will provide a feeling of freshness in summer and warmth in winter. Soft and breathable, it allows good air circulation between the fibres and good moisture evacuation to limit excessive perspiration.
