Density and firmness
What's the best mattress for a baby, a hard mattress or a soft mattress? A firm mattress provides adequate support for your baby's growing body and reduces the risk of suffocation. avoid mattresses that are too soft, which can sink in and make breathing difficult. Pediatricians recommend that babies sleep on a mattress of medium to hard density, i.e. between 20 and 22 kg/m³ for foam mattresses. In other words, neither too hard nor too soft, but firm enough to keep your baby safe.
- A mattress with a density of less than 20 kg/m³ is too soft and could be dangerous for your baby.

Choosing a safe mattress for your baby
First of all, check that your baby's future mattress complies with Decree 2000-164 of February 23, 2000, on the safety of certain bedding items. This decree guarantees mattress hygiene and aims to protect people against certain fire risks.
